Medical Associates Foundation Donates $25,000 to Support HIKE Fund for Children with Hearing Loss

The Medical Associates Foundation is proud to announce a donation of $25,000 to the Hearing Improvement & Kids Equipment (HIKE) Fund. This contribution will support the purchase of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and related services such as fittings and remolding, ensuring that children who need them have access without financial burden.

The HIKE Fund was established in 2021 by Timothy King, MD, and Edward Alt, MD, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, to address the significant financial barriers faced by families of children with hearing loss. "We set up the HIKE Fund to ensure that cost would not be a prohibitive factor for families needing hearing aids for their children," said Dr. King, co-founder of the HIKE Fund. "Hearing aids are essential for speech and language development, yet many families are unable to afford them due to their classification as assistive devices and the associated high costs. Our goal is to provide these necessary devices and care at no cost to families, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive."

Zach Keeling, Chief Executive Officer of Medical Associates, expressed the organization’s commitment to community health and support for the HIKE Fund's mission: "At Medical Associates, our mission is to provide superior healthcare and improve the overall well-being of our community. Supporting the HIKE Fund directly aligns with that mission, ensuring children receive the essential care and hearing devices they need. We are honored to contribute to such an impactful cause that benefits both children and their families."

The HIKE Fund is open to all families, regardless of income.
