Joan received her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, in 1984. She completed her Physical Therapy Certification at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, in 1986. She has published research in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. Following graduation, she was employed at Mercy Health Center (MercyOne), Dubuque, Iowa, before joining the Medical Associates Clinic in 1991.
Joan is one of our senior therapists with over 30 years of patient care experience. She performs patient rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries and post-operative care, including back care and sports rehabilitation. She takes part in extensive continuing education each year, including courses in sports medicine, functional movement systems, chronic pain, and spinal and post-surgical rehabilitation.
Joan earned her Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency from Emory University in 2001 and is a member of the Vestibular Education Disorders Association. She completes vestibular rehabilitation with patients for diagnosis of vertigo and balance impairments.
Joan is local to Dubuque, growing up in Epworth, Iowa, and attending Western Dubuque High School (Go Bobcats!). Her home is now South of Dubuque, where she lives and farms with her husband. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, and being active with outdoor activities and travel.
